Radio 3 Lunchtime Concert

on BBC Radio 3

World of Brass at Symphony Hall
Petroc Trelawny presents the first of three programmes from last week's festival of brass in Birmingham, featuring leading bands from Britain, Europe, USA and New Zealand. Today's highlights include the winning performance of Michael Ball's "Ceremony", the set work in this year's Open Brass Band Championship. Recent
American brass music is performed by the Columbus Band from Ohio, USA, and there are items from the Gala Concert celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Worshipful Company of Musicians, played by the Grimethorpe Colliery and Yorkshire Building Society Bands conducted by Elgar Howarth. The Williams Fairey Band under its musical director James Gourlay performs a tribute to Malcolm Arnold as he approaches 80 - his Peterloo Overture - and BBC Young Musician finalist David Childs is the soloist in the Euphonium Concerto by Joseph Horowitz.
