Last in the series examining the state of modern-day sport. Whose Game Is It Anyway? Taking part is what counts, says the old Olympic maxim, and for many people, from Central Park to Hackney
Marshes, participation is the name of the game. But a new British survey shows children are less fit than they were a generation ago, and resources for sport are drying up worldwide. In the former Soviet Union, organised sport is crumbling with the old regime; in China, the effort is increasingly going into elitist sport; and in the west, television seems to have more supporters than exercise. Tonight's film investigates whether "Sport for All" can ever be more than a dream?
