Ligeti's Requiem brought him international fame when its haunting vocal clusters were used by Stanley Kubrick in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. Two concertos fill the second half of tonight's Prom - Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra, written in New York in 1943, and Stravinsky's neoclassical showpiece, written in Paris in 1931.
