A Bolt from the Blue

on BBC Radio 3

byjEANBENEDETTI with and The Moscow Art Theatre was founded in 1897 by a leading actor and director, Konstantin Stanislavsky , and a leading critic and author,
Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko . The success of Chekhov's The
Seagull a year later confirmed the soundness of their approach. But by 1902 personality differences and artistic disagreements began to emerge. The sad story of the deterioration of their relationship is told in a series of often bitterly personal letters which were exchanged between 1902 and 1917. Directed by JOHN THEOCHARIS (R)
