The Song of the Bell
Petroc Trelawny presents a performance, recorded at the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool, of a work which has historical connections with this venue: Max Bruch conducted a successful performance of his secular oratorio Das Lied von der Glocke in Philharmonic Hall in 1879 and he was appointed conductorto the Liverpool Philharmonic Society the following year. Bruch's work is a setting of a poem by Schiller, an allegory which likens the stages of man's life to the casting of a new bell.
