This is the first broadcast of a new combination of all-star performers.
Anthony Pini , who plays the cello, is principal cellist of the London
Philharmonic Orchestra : Eileen Grainger , viola player, is Wilfrid Parry 's wife, and plays the viola at
Sadler's Wells: also from Sadler's Wells, where he is leader of the orchestra, comes the violinist, Joseph Shadwick. Wilfrid Parry and Joseph Shadwick have given several sonata recitals, and the latter has broadcast many times with his own Quartet.
Wilfrid Parry studied at the Trinity College of Music, where he won the Chappell Gold Medal, and was awarded a Fellowship for solo playing at the age of seventeen. After he had finished his studies he joined the teaching staff of Trinity College, but resigned after a few years to devote all his time to playing. In December 1936 Parry gave the first broadcast performance with the BBC Orchestra of Haydn Wood's Piano Concerto.
