Wildlife on One

on BBC One London

Devilfish. Giant octopuses do exist outside adventure yarns. Setting out on an underwater quest to find them in their north Pacific home, film-makers Victoria Stone and Mark Deeble filmed them in spectacular detail, hunting, fighting and caring for their young. The "devilfish" of popular myth turned out to be an emotional and exceptionally intelligent creature.
When this programme was first shown in January 1991, a record Wildlife on One audience of 13.1 million viewers were amazed by scenes of Victoria Stone in the embrace of a 16-foot giant octopus. Her film went on to win four international awards.
