Camden Jazz Festival: 1: The Monk Project

on BBC Radio 3

Charles Fox introduces a series of four very varied recordings made in the Shaw Theatre during the 1987 Festival.
The American pianist and composer Thelonious Monk, who died in 1982, is still one of the most influential figures in jazz. Last April, an international group of musicians came together to play some of their own music, but mainly that of Monk.
