Michael Berkeley's guest today is the writer, poet, mountaineer and poker-player Al Alvarez, who has just published his entertaining autobiography, Where Did It All Go Right?, detailing his friendships with a variety of fellow-writers and entertainers, from Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes to Zero Mostel. His musical choices include works by Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, Sibelius and Janacek, plus Dr Hook's Everybody's Making It Big But Me.
