Alfred Brendel and Simon Rattle appear together at the Proms for the first time and present Beethoven's grandest piano concerto. The Proms theme of re-creation is continued in Tippett's dreamlike reflections on Corelli. A dashing overture opens the programme, and Rattle displays his delight in the music of Haydn by ending with one of his most sparkling symphonies.
