Arnold Bax (1883-1953) scarcely ever have I been tempted to seek again the ivory tower of youth.
In common with so many artists of his generation, Bax and his music were deeply affected by the Great War. As well as featuring some of the immediate post-war music, this week's programmes draw upon Bax's symphonic output, which ended within a month of the outbreak of the Second World War.
