View in Radio Times

Written and produced by Malcolm Baker-Smith .
This is the story of life in a Fleet Aircraft Carrier. The ship puts to sea from the Clyde in mid-December on operations, bound for an unknown destination: every member of the ship's company has his own idea of where they are going and why. All of them are wide of the mark, for they are bound for a very remote sphere of operations. Their journey out is attended by unexpected encounters with the enemy, and disappointments when he does not show up. It was written and recorded at sea. and is based on the experience* of the author while serving in H.M.S. ' Illustrious.' The story is told by Ralph Richardson, formerly Lieut.-Commander in the Fleet Air Arm. and all the actors are officers and ratings of H.M. Navy
