RESPONSIBILITIES OF EMPIRE

on National Programme Daventry

View in Radio Times

The Rt. Hon. David Lloyd
George, M.P.
To attempt to summarise the life and achievements of David Lloyd George within the space of a note is as impossible as it seems unnecessary. He may be a Welshman, Caernarvon Boroughs may have returned him to Parliament for forty-seven years, but he is a national and international figure, his name and features known to everyone.
Some know him banally as the 'Wizard of Wales ', some may have forgotten that he has been described as a greater War Minister than Pitt ; all can tell of his eloquence ; but the thing apt to be overlooked in this man, who in power of place was second to none in the world in 1918, is the fact that a quarter of a century ago he was the driving force behind every social reform of our time.
Four years ago he broadcast in the notable series 'Whither Britain?'; tonight he is to speak in a series as notable ; and surely no man carried the burden of ' Responsibilities of Empire' through such an anxious period of the Empire's history.
