Antarctica - Frozen Assets
Presented by Anthony Smith
Two-thirds of the world's fresh water is kept ' on ice ' in Antarctica - the frozen continent also has vast reserves of coal; it may have oil and gas, as well as minerals such as gold, cobalt, copper and chromium. The seas around the Antarctic are brimming with valuable shellfish. Who owns these riches? What is the possibility that a world hungry for food, minerals and energy, might be able to exploit the planet's last wilderness? Producer DAVID PATERSON
