By Patricia Hannah.
In the South of France in 1945, consulting Alice B Toklas's recipe book, Gertrude Stein prepares to bake a cake. She weighs flour and dried fruit, beats eggs and sugar and searches for baking tins while her thoughts roam through her life, her writings and the Impressionists, Dadaists, Surrealists, Cubists and piss-artists she has known. The product is a fruitcake created to celebrate the liberation of France. With Angela Pleasence as Gertrude Stein.
