THE SILENCE OF MARCEL DUCHAMP

on Third Programme

View in Radio Times

by Andrew Forge
Marcel Duchamp 's painting ' Nude Descending a Staircase of 1912 was a landmark in the heroic period. Soon after he completed it the artist abandoned painting yet the influence of his rare utterances has continued to grow until now we see him as one of the key figures in the art of this century.
Andrew Forge 's remarks are occasioned by the appearance of the first monograph on Duchamp by Robert Lebel.
