On March 6, 1957, the Gold Coast (including Ashanti), the Northern Territories Protectorate, and the Trust Territory of British Togoland became, under the name of Ghana, a fully independent member of the Commonwealth. Today's programme describes life in the cocoa-producing areas and shows how the new Ghana is planning for future prosperity.
