Throughout his long career, the conductor Paavo Berglund has championed the music of his compatriot Jean Sibelius and the symphonies of Shostakovich. Tonight at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, he directs the Halle Orchestra in two examples of Sibelius in lighter vein and in Shostakovich's war-time symphony.
