Prison

on BBC One London

Four reports by Tom Mangold on life inside Britain's jails today. 2: Rule 43s
'We have been judged twice: once by the courts, and once by the unofficial courts in prison. We have been subject to assaults-verbal, sometimes physical. We have been forcibly segregated from other prisoners. This is a double penalty.'
Rule 43 segregates prisoners for their own safety-usually sex offenders and ' grasses'. They create special problems for the prison service, and, despite their abominable crimes, present a pathetic picture in their bizarre, closed world inside.
