As the Prince of Wales prepares to celebrate his 50th birthday next Saturday (14 November), this programme assesses his future. At the time of writing, there is a degree of uncertainty about what direction the programme will take and, indeed, who will be interviewed. But, the programme-makers say, their aim is not to unleash revelations.
There is a view that the Prince's standing has improved significantly over the past 12 months.
Around the time of his divorce from Princess Diana, doubts were expressed about his suitability to become king. Now Prince Charles's path to the throne looks smoother, even with public knowledge of his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles. But the question remains whether the constitution could allow the heir to the throne to re-marry.
