Scotsmen's Gold: Episode 4

on Light Programme

A new serial in ten episodes by G.K. Saunders
Violin played by Billy Miller
Production by Audrey Cameron
[Starring] Duncan McIntyre as James Pearson and Ronald Baddiley as Sam Jolly

James Pearson's general store on the Lindis Pass gold diggings was burnt out by fire, generally thought to have been started by Steve the Squealer at the instigation of Andrew Wilson, a rival storekeeper. It was started to force Pearson to reveal the whereabouts of £1,000 worth of gold he was keeping for some of the diggers. Wilson spreads the story that Pearson himself had started the fire to cover his own theft of the gold, but Pearson, at a public meeting of the diggers, is absolved of all blame. News reaches the Lindis Pass of a much larger gold strike on the Tuapeka River south of Dunedin.
