This sparkling little work, one of Mozart's lesser-known compositions, is one of a set of nine symphonies found stitched together in a little blue-grey binding and probably all composed about 1773. Nine pages of the autograph are in a strange hand-possibly Leopold Mozart 's.
The three movements are linked by transition passages, a feature that increases the similarity to the Italian opera overture of'the day. As Abert points out, there is no theme-development ' in the German sense ' but merely transposed repetition of ideas in the old Italian style.
