The 1979 World Figure Skating Championships

on BBC One London

from
Vienna featuring The Men's
Championship
In the recent European event,
ROBIN COUSINS once again proved he was the best free skater and, but for a disastrous start in the compulsory figures, would have taken the gold medal instead of the bronze.
Tonight the opposition is even tougher with the reigning World Champion, CHARLES TICKNER of the United States, and the brilliant FUMIO IGARASHI of Japan, joining the men who beat Cousins in Zagreb, JAN HOFFMAN of East Germany and the Soviet Union's VLADIMIR KOVALEV. But nevertheless his free skating could take him tonight to the winner's rostrum and instal him as favourite to take next year's Olympjc gold medal „
