The Pride and the Passion

on BBC One London

The feature film starring Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, Sophia Loren

As the Spanish army retreats from Napoleon's invading troops, only a handful of guerrillas remains to carry on the fight. Their target is the heavily fortified town of Avila which they plan to take with the biggest cannon ever made, recently abandoned by the Spanish army but hundreds of miles from Avila. In their subsequent brutal, exhausting and perilous journey across Spain, the gun seems to acquire a life and personality of its own, endangering its captors as well as their enemies.
