This programme gives an impression of the life of the valley, through readings from Lawrence's work and through the recorded voices of the people who live there. It tries to show how Lawrence's attitude towards the country - that of a writer formalising what he sees - is different from that of its inhabitants, and how far the two overlap and illuminate each other. with the voices of the people of Brinslev, Eastwood, Greasley, Heanor, Ilkeston.
