On an average day that is the number of 'consumers' of BBC Radio. Viewed from Broadcasting House in London it seems a reassuring figure: considered 'from the grass roots' what do listeners actually think of what they hear?

This week the BBC's attitude to the provinces is examined, particularly the claim that the Corporation is too-metropolitan in outlook. Listeners get together in Birmingham to fire questions at Patrick Beech, the BBC's Controller, English Regions.
