Original Soundtrack Recordings - Music at the Movies

on BBC Radio 2

112. Veteran film critic
Barry Norman introduces two programmes on film music from the composer's standpoint, featuring lessons in studio technique and film terminology, and interviews with top directors, editors, producers and composers. The two-parter covers Hollywood in detail next week, and starts this evening with a look at mainly British soundtracks. Norman's historical overview recalls the big orchestral music of established composers in early silent films, the pared-town sounds that accompanied the new realism of the 50s and 60s, the James Bond phenomenon, and the changes necessitated by the transition from the big screen to television.
