John Amis recalls the young Australian pianist Noel Mewton-Wood with the help of contributions from Norman Del Mar, Desmond Shaw Taylor, Sir Michael Tippett and Lord Harewood, with Liszt from a BBC archive recording and a complete performance of Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No.1 from one of the few recordings made by the pianist before his tragic death, aged 31, in 1953.
