Of the thousands of Jewish children smuggled out of Europe during the Second World War, Joan Salter appeared to be one of the lucky ones. She was welcomed with open arms by an affluent foster family in the United
States, her parents escaped the death camps, and she was reunited with them in London after the war. But what seemed to be a fairy-tale ending was the beginning of a nightmare for Joan. She tells her story to Jean Snedegar , with the help of letters exchanged between her real parents and her foster parents.
