Conductor, GEORGE HAWKINS
FLORENCE MACBRIDE (violin)
(Soloist, J. CHALMERS )
There is scarcely a town or important village in Scotland which has not been visited by this famous combination, and wireless has carried its music into the remotest places of the countryside. The band was formed in 1918 and met with almost instantaneous success. In 1924 it secured the first-class championship of Scotland with medals for the best cornet, euphonium, and trombone. In 1929 it was the runner-up in the world championship at the Crystal Palace. It appeared at the great Wembley Exhibition and. of course, has often played in the Kelvin Hall , Glasgow, and the Waverley Market, Edinburgh. In the Waverley Market in October this year it was placed first out of twenty-three bands at the Scottish Amateur Band Championship, and was awarded a medal for the best set of basses.
