To its eternal credit the German Democratic Republic always pays us the compliment of sending its strongest athletic team, which is why even individual victories against them are coveted prizes. In International Athletics the challenge against them and Belgium is headed by Sebastian Coe (l) in the 800m, where he is joined by the brave front runner Paul Forbes. Harry King, Mike McFarlane, and Earl Tulloch will be sprinting, and our other individual stars capable of stealing events include Gary Oakes (400m hurdles), Mark Holton (110m hurdles), Keith Connor (triple jump), David Ottley (javelin), Julian Goater (10,000m) and Martin Girvan (hammer). The whole match could be much closer than the East Germans might anticipate. (Ron Pickering)
