Some memories of Her Majesty's travels in the Commonwealth from 1947 to 1954
Her Majesty's first journey to a Commonwealth country took place when she, as Princess Elizabeth, with the other members of the Royal Family, visited South Africa just before her twenty-first birthday. Since then, Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh have made many other journeys and have been seen by people living in the remotest parts of the Commonwealth. Matthew Halton recalls, with illustrations from
BBC archives, some of the diverse and typical moments in these travels, including the Commonwealth Tour in 1953-54 and the visit to Canada in 1951.
