The Other Half

on BBC One London

with John Pitman
Six love stories about six very different couples - people in the public eye and the partners who share their private lives.
5: Edwina and Ray
It's less than a year since glamorous mother-of-two Edwina Currie romped home for the Tories in Derbyshire South, but already she and her husband, Ray, are being called 'the next Margaret and Denis'.
'It's very flattering from the political angle as far as she's concerned', says Ray, 'and if I can do a quarter as well as Denis Thatcher does and put up with the public teasing, I'll be very happy.'
When he met Edwina 13 years ago he knew that she wanted to be an mp and she knew that she was going to be one. 'I vetted him very carefully', says Edwina who has already made her mark in the House and out of it. She aims to be the first woman to make the Commons shooting team and she's much wined and dined by the gossip columnists as well as the political writers.
'Ray is very good for me', she says 'At the House they say flattering things they don't always mean. Then I get home and I'm brought down with a bump with questions like where have I put his razor or why wasn't there any milk.'
