The Institute for the Study and Treatment of Delinquency, founded in 1931 as a pioneer organisation for the investigation and treatment of anti-social disorders, and in particular of juvenile crime, is one of the few remaining organisations concerned with social medicine rhat must still depend on voluntary support. It acts as an advisory centre for various public and private bodies concerned with the preven.tion of cr:me. Its guiding principle is that prevention during childhood is better than prison in adult life. The sum of £ 30,000 is urgently needed for its activities, which include rhe development of research, the publication of a scientific journal, the training of workers, and the organisation of lectures throughout the country.
