Cast in order of speaking:
Mary's marriage to Lord George. Germain has at last reached the crisis so long threatened. Lord George has returned alone to the country; while Mary, angry and humiliated by his disgraceful display of jealousy at Mrs. Jones' great ball, stays on with her father at Munster Court. She will not leave London before the date originally fixed for her departure, and then she will go with her father to Brotherton Deanery. But this plan is upset by another disaster.
