Apocalypse Now and Then

on BBC Radio 3

Five programmes in which
Iwan Russell-Jones examines the theology behind the belief that we are living at the end of time.
3: Pinning the Tail on the Antichrist Californian preacher Irving Baxter is the editor of End Times magazine, which keeps its readers abreast of world events from an apocalyptic perspective. He is keen to identify the Antichrist in our midst.
Candidates must fit a fairly strict set of prophetic characteristics. He will be a peacemaker, a great orator and a leader, a man whom nobody suspects will turn nasty when he has us in his power. He will be so persuasive that he will move us into world government. He will probably have the number 666 attached to him, perhaps by the numerical value of his name. According to Baxter, the field of suspects is narrowing fast.
