Bronson stars as an ageing Wild Bill Hickok haunted by a recurring dream about a great white buffalo rampaging across a snowy landscape.
Returning West to join the gold rush in the Black Hills, the legendary gunfighter becomes involved instead in an obsessive quest for the last white buffalo in the world.
