Stayin' Alive

on BBC Radio 1 England

with Kid Jensen
Dr Alan Maryon-Davis today talks about emotions and the effects they have on our metabolism and behaviour.
Are emotions stimulated by brain and body chemistry or is there some more mystical cause?
Where is the 'seat of our emotions'? In ancient times it was thought the pit of the stomach was the seat of our self-conscience, the spleen was the seat of melancholy and ill humour and the liver was the seat of love and violent passion. Now it is the heart which is thought to be the seat of love and devotion, of courage, our innermost thoughts, secret feelings and emotions generally.
Alan explains where our pleasure centres are and tells why we feel different at different times.
During 1978, 368,300 couples were married in England and Wales, while 143,300 divorces were decreed absolute. Today Alison Rice talks about marriage and divorce and weighs up the pros and cons of a do it yourself divorce.
