Reflections on the Development of a European Society by Robert Birley
Headmaster of Eton, formerly Educational Adviser to the British Military Governor in Germany
4-Britain's Contribution to a European Society
In the preceding lectures Mr. Birley has considered the problem of how patriotism may be reconciled with European unity; he has spoken of Britain's past relations with the Continent and the lessons to be learned from them; he has stressed the need for a common second language and has suggested some educational changes if Britain is to play a more constructive part in Europe.
This lecture is to be printed in The Listener dated November 17.
