Has the accommodation of Asian 'nationalism,' in the membership of India, Pakistan, and Ceylon, modified traditional conceptions of the Commonwealth or loosened existing ties? Professor Mansergh reflects on these questions, and on the reasons given by Pandit Nehru in particular for remaining within the Commonwealth: has India's membership advanced, as he hoped, the cause of world peace, or of aiding under-developed countries, or of ending racial discrimination?
