The site of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon lies a mere
70km south of Baghdad. As one of the Seven Wonders of the World, it was one of the great centres of early civilisation, yet recent events have threatened the ruins' survival. Used as a base camp by military forces, there are reports of serious damage to the archaeological remains.
