Gossington Hall has a new owner - the American film star Marina Gregg. But during the annual charity fete held in the grounds of her house, a local worthy, Heather Badcock, is taken ill and dies. Foul play is suspected and Inspector Craddock is assigned to the case. The first person he calls on is his aunt - Jane Marple.
