Venetian Carnival. In Monteverdi's day - as now - tourists flocked each year to sample the spectacular pleasures of the Venetian Carnival. Monteverdi provided music for all sorts of Venetian festivities - sacred and secular, private and public. This programme includes smaller-scale vocal pieces like Zefiro Torna , Fugge, Fugge and Gira il Nemio Insidioso plus the magnificent Gloria composed to give thanks for the end of the Great Plague of 1631.
