Omnibus: The Performers

on BBC One London

A film about the great Spanish painter Francisco Goya 1746-1828
With Esperanza Malkin, Vallentin Conde
and the voice of Colin Blakely as Goya

Goya's etchings suggest the theme of a performance where the actors' roles change from day to day, selected by a force beyond their control. This film, made during a fiesta in modern-day Spain, tells Goya's story - part of it fact, part fiction, rumour, and contradiction.
The violence, the politics, the sexuality in his work, the ambiguities in his own personality, are all part of this Masquerade.
