This afternoon in Rome's Olympic Stadium, Czechoslovakia, the holders, met West Germany-a repeat of the 1976 Final, in the first match in Group One.

This evening in the San Paolo Stadium, Naples, Holland, the 1978 World Cup Finalists, met Greece. This is the first time ever that the Greeks have qualified for a major tournament.
