Sportsnight: Newcastle United v Metz

on BBC One London

Live Uefa Cup football with coverage of Newcastle United's third-round, second-leg clash at St James' Park.

Kevin Keegan's team aim to become the first English winners of the Uefa Cup since Tottenham's triumph in 1984. So far they have defeated Sweden's Halmstads in the first round and Ferencvaros of Hungary in the second round, managing to pull back from a first-leg deficit with an impressive 4-0 victory in the second-leg tie.

Now the French team Metz, who beat Sporting Lisbon in the last round, stand between Newcastle and a place in the last eight. The Magpies know they face some tough competition, but with players like England centre-forward Les Ferdinand and the mercurial Peter Beardsley in the ranks, they are hoping to find the goals that will take them a step nearer the competition which they won back in 1969.

Introduced by Desmond Lynam, with Alan Hansen and Trevor Brooking.
