continues the season of classic British war films. Today starring Walter Fitzgerald , Mervyn Johns Ralph Michael , Robert Beatty
Ealing Studios' tribute to the Merchant Navy is based on the heroic recovery of MV San Demetrio by her crew in 1940. Nine hundred miles from Britain and carrying 12,000 tons of petrol, the ship was shelled by a German battleship and caught fire. What happened next was described by an official of the shipping company as ' an epic which will go down in history wherever tales of the sea are told '.
