Life File

on BBC One London

A series about life and death issues in modern medicine. Kay Alexander reports on premature birth and abortion. With the help of modern technology some premature babies born after only 24 weeks of pregnancy are surviving, and yet the law says doctors may carry out abortions up to 28 weeks. The critical four weeks in between have become the topic of bitter and emotional debate. While the arguments continue, the special care unit of Birmingham's Dudley Road Hospital continues to coax tiny babies through the first weeks of their lives. Producer DAVID NELSON
