A conversation between the Rt. Hon. John Strachey , M.P. and Michael Edwardes
In his recent book The End of Empire John Strachey examined the British conquest of India at the end of the eighteenth century, and the second wave of imperialist expansion between the years 1870 and 1914; and the reverse process of imperial dissolution since 1945, with the resultant need for a new relationship ' in the place of empire ' between the ex-imperial powers and the peoples formerly under their rule.
He discusses these themes with Michael Edwardes , who is working on a study of imperialism and its aftermath in Asia.
