Eighteen months ago Rough Justice presented three cases, two of murder, one of sexual assault, where it seemed possible that men had been convicted for crimes they had not committed. Two of the programmes suggested that the real murderers had escaped justice. The third showed the agonising situation of a man who will not be released until he confesses to a crime he maintains he did not commit.
The three programmes produced questions in the House of Lords and in the Commons. A Select Committee of MPs debated the cases and recommended changes in legal procedure.
As a prelude to a new series of three programmes on further possible miscarriages of justice, the Rough Justice team looks back on the last series and reports what has happened to the convicted men concerned.
